Niemüllers poem

First they came for the jews, and I did not speak out because I was not jewish

Then they came for the communists, and I did not speak out because I was not a communist

Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me

The Family’s Story

This is a “report” about a family that lost everything because they wanted the liberty to speak their minds as free beings!

Raised by secular parents, frequenting better private schools and always taking responsibility for themselves, Khalid and Asia lived a good life in Islamabad for many years. Then in 2008 their world started to crack

The point of change

Khalid Saeed is raised in a secular family. In his very young years he participated in several meetings with like-minded people who refused to abandon their lives by letting over their personal responsibility to the god of islam, Allah, in whom they never believed and therefore refused to worship.

Such a behavior, actively turn your back to Allah and prophet Mohammad, is not tolerated in Pakistan. Therefore Khalid walked on shaky ground, when he after the London bombings (conducted by Pakistani immigrants from the better middle class in the UK) in July 2005 intensified his critics of religion and islam in particular.

Of course it is natural to ask; why he did do it? He had a family. He had a job, his own car-business. The family had apparently a good life in Rawalpindi/Islamabad. So why start spoiling it? All though it was Pakistanis that had carried out the blast in Londons underground, he, Khalid, of course knew, that he was not personal responsible for this terrible act!

Khalid still cannot explain why he took it so hard at that time. He express it as something that just came from inside. I am sure those of you, who have experienced equal things that stirred up your emotions or your life like the 7/7 attack did to many people, know how difficult it is to explain one’s own feelings and reactions at a certain time. Of course after a while you could substantiate your thoughts and reflections – so did also Khalid.

The fateful year of 2008

Khalid never intended to spoil his family or himself. He never wanted to put them or himself in danger because of his beliefs. He just could not hold back his opinions concerning the development in his country – or as he describes it himself – “The lack of development due to religious back striving!”

Khalid was convinced that islam had drained his country and society for common sense, and that the more and more extreme Islamic spokesmen threatened to ruin not only Pakistan, but even the entire world. And then his younger daughter Kiran got seriously sick. That really brought the family out of balance. The youngest boy, Rafay, was not even a year old and then there was Momin hardly 3 years. Iman was 7 years at the time and she grew old all too fast. Kiran after a while with many hospital visits and doctor consultances died in lymphoma cancer.

Of course emotional events of this kind makes an impact on most peoples lives. Khalid will not say it has anything to do with the whole situation, but it is true that in the period after he and Asia lost their daugther  Khalid exaggerated his writing and his messages on his blog: http://noislam2007.blogspot.com/ It was not because he hated Pakistan or because he wanted to blame others or offend anybodys beliefs, it was just because he wanted to tell the world , that believing in Allah and the prophet Muhammed is not the solution to everything – on the contrary.  Khalid knew that he was walking on dangerous soil, but he continued all though he does not look at himself as special courageous.
